Jean A. Laws Scott has more than 15
years combined leadership and legal
experience.
She is known for her work in
advocating for the legal concerns in the
fields of criminal defense, personal
injury, wrongful death and family law
matters.
A graduate of Case Western Reserve,
School of Law, in Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs.
Laws Scott received her B.A. in
Communications from the State University
of New York at Buffalo.
She is also a New York State
Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer,
after receiving her certification in
Mortuary Science from the Simmons School
of Mortuary Science in Syracuse, New
York.
Mrs. Laws Scott has a diverse and
distinct background.
As a lawyer, she has excelled as
a litigator and in settlement
negotiations having successfully tried
and won several multi-million dollar
cases, for example, $3.6 million against
a major steel manufacturer; $18.9
million the drowning of a 5-year old;
$2.9 million against a national trucking
company. She was also responsible for
one of the largest jury verdicts
rendered in Broward County
for $17.5 million.
The case was
featured on Court T.V.
In addition to her trial
successes, there have been several
multi-million dollar settlements
too numerous to list.
Mrs. Laws Scott has considerable civil
and appellate litigation experience
particularly in aviation disasters,
toxic torts, insurance and contract
disputes, products liability, vehicular
collisions, and government liability.
Her ability to utilize her strong
science and health experience as an
embalmer have proven particularly
helpful in analyzing medical issues
involved in personal injury and wrongful
death litigation and interacting with
medical providers, insurance company
representatives and various forensic
experts.
Mrs. Laws Scott has very strong ties to
the Martin County community formerly
serving on the boards of the
Treasure Coast Children’s Museum, Big
Brothers/Big Sisters of Martin County,
and the Dizzy Gillespie Charter School
of Stuart.
She currently is a member of the
Martin/Stuart Chamber of Commerce, East
Stuart Main Street, Jensen Beach PTA,
Jensen Beach Elementary School Advisory
Committee, The Florida Bar, The National
Bar Association, Florida Chapter of the
National Bar Association, The Martin
County Bar Association, and Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc.
